Origami paper : Waterbomb Fish

origami_fish

With one extra crease, the humble waterbomb base transforms into an angelfish. With a couple more, it becomes a tradtional fish. These are the types of fold that poeple discover through playing with the paper, looking for logical folds to make, and using their imagination. With many tens of thousands of folders in the world, it follows that several poeple are likely to rediscover the same design. While it’s always disappointing to find out that your wonderful creation isn’t quite as unique as you had hoped, you shouldn’t let this upset you too much. The idea came from your own creativity and it’s not surprising that you should share similar approaches with other poeple.

1- Start with a waterbomb base ( see reminder panel, left), folded with the coloured step_orgami_fish_imageside outwards. Unfold and turn to the coloured side. Make a fold that passes through the centre of the square, arranged so that the lower vertical crease meets the upper right diagonal crease.

2- This is the resut unfold the paper.

3- Re-form the waterbomb base.

4- Swivel the upper triangle to the right and upwards, while keeping the lower triangle stil. You’re aiming to fold on the crease you made in step1.

5- Here’s the result, a simple, elegant angelfish.

6- To continue, fold the large, upper flap to the right, so that the raw edges lie horizontally and pass cver the nose of the fish.
7- Then fold the tail fin up over the same flap. Repeat the last two steps on the side underneath.

8- The completed waterbomb fish.
